President Donald Trump has been flexing his leadership muscles, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, whose state has been devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
On “Fox News Sunday,” the governor noted that Trump has been “extremely professional” and “very helpful” when it came to dealing with the ruin in hurricane-stricken Houston.
“I give FEMA a grade of A+ all the way from the president down,” Abbott said. “We’ve never been more prepared for a storm for a storm than we had been this time.”
“[Trump] called and said, ‘Governor, whatever you need, you’ve got,’” he recalled. “This is the quickest turnaround I’ve ever seen from the time that a governor made a disaster declaration to getting that granted.”
On Friday night, Trump announced that he signed an emergency disaster declaration for Texas after Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Rockport, Texas late last week.
“At the request of the Governor of Texas, I have signed the Disaster Proclamation, which unleashes the full force of government help!” President Trump Tweeted Friday night. His signature opens the door for federal resources and manpower to come to the assistance of Texas as officials begin the work of recovering from the storm while devastating rains and winds continue.
